When wrapping a van, car or practically anything with a contour, it’s very important to take the necessary steps to assuring your customer is satisfied with the end result.
- Make sure you clean your subject thoroughly. We use a 3 step process at Sign me up sign shop. First we clean the vehicle with 70% alcohol. We dilute it 2-1 with water and use a microfiber cloth to clean the surface. Then we let it sit for a few hours before we clean the surface again but this time with a lacquer thinner. This helps get all the small particles off the surface as well as get any grime, dirt, mud, bird droppings off the vehicle. Then we let it dry before hitting it again with the 70% diluted alcohol. This will give your vinyl a good clean bond to the surface you’re wrapping.
- Use any edge sealing, around the parts that you’re wrapping. Tape primers work well in the contours as well. This will help the bond in the creases that vinyl wants to pull away from.
- Finally, once the vinyl is installed, we always always always post heat the vinyl. This will give the vinyl a new memory and will more permanently adhere to the shape it’s wrapping too.
If you follow these 3 steps and take your time, your wrap is almost always guaranteed to come out looking perfect.
Happy wrapping to all you wrappers out there!
